Our Deep 9 1/8-Inch Langstroth Frames are built to give your bees and you a strong foundation for brood rearing and honey production. These frames maintain proper bee space inside the hive, letting bees build, store, and move efficiently while giving you easy removal and inspection.
Each frame includes five components — a top bar, bottom bar, two sidebars, and a deep foundation sheet — that fit securely together with glue, nails, or staples. The foundation snaps into the grooves on the top and bottom bars without extra tools, making assembly fast.
These deep frames are most commonly used in brood boxes, where the queen lays eggs and the colony maintains its population throughout the year. The large surface area gives the queen more continuous laying space, while worker bees use the surrounding comb for brood and food storage during winter.
Each frame is available unassembled or assembled. Unassembled frames go together easily with a hammer, nails, and good-quality wood glue, and let you customize the build. Assembled frames arrive glued, nailed, and fitted with foundation, ready for the hive.
In 2015, we began offering foundation with double the beeswax coating compared to standard foundation found on the market, such as thinly coated Mann Lake plastic. Bees are naturally more attracted to this thicker coating of American beeswax, drawing comb faster and more evenly — a difference we and our customers have seen firsthand.
The grooved top and bottom bars make foundation installation simple and secure. It snaps firmly into place, held steady by the double grooves, which prevent shifting or bowing during use.
For large-scale operations, bulk orders of 810 or more assembled frames ship via freight on a pallet.
