A budget-friendly option for beekeepers who want effective oxalic acid vaporization without a large battery investment. The InstaVap Lite works with smaller, more common 2Ah batteries — it takes slightly longer to heat up than other models, but delivers the same high-quality mite control in a compact, portable package.
Vaporizing with oxalic acid is nearly 100% effective against mites inside the hive, but it can't penetrate wax cappings. That means it works best when a hive has no capped brood — during winter for most of the US, after collecting a swarm, after a colony has swarmed, or during requeening events when there's a natural brood break.
Compared to the InstaVap Original, the Lite is more affordable and compact but takes longer to heat up — the Original is faster, especially with higher-capacity batteries like 6Ah, and suits more consistent use in larger apiaries. The Original is also a bit heavier and more durable, with a boxier design.
Compared to the InstaVap Compact, the Lite is smaller and works with the more common 2Ah batteries, while the Compact heats and vaporizes faster due to its higher power draw — which requires larger batteries than 2Ah. The Lite suits smaller-scale operations willing to trade some speed for cost savings.
Turn on the vaporizer to preheat to 445°F, then fill the plunger with oxalic acid. Insert the stem into a drilled ¼-inch hole or the hive entrance. Release the oxalic acid by tapping the plunger — it vaporizes instantly. Each treatment takes around 20–30 seconds. Monitor battery voltage throughout, and wear protective gear to avoid oxalic acid fume exposure.
